本期驻地艺术家 | "异乡人"许尤嘉 New artist-in-residence Egon Xu

工作室画廊_项目空间很荣幸迎来了新一期驻地艺术家许尤嘉，他将在我们的项目空间从8月1日至9月28日，进行为期两个月的驻地工作，期间，我们会有不定期的讨论活动工作室开放日，期待大家的加入！

Studio Gallery_PROJECT Space is pleased to announce our new artist-in-residence from August 1st to September 28th: Egon Xu! Partaking in a two-month residency, Egon will be showcasing his final project during an Open Studio event and alongside some artist talks. So stay tuned for more details!

艺术家许尤嘉工作室 Artist's studio

A: “我觉得自己的东西是比较感性的东西，我不会先画一个草图，再把草图搬到画上。比方这段时间，我的心里头有个主题，然后就开始画。”

Q: “你的作品都是一次性画完吗？”

A:“是的，在感觉好的时候我会尽量在一次性之内全部画完。只有比方有哪些地方我觉得不好的，会擦出来重新再画，但是很少。因为我用的这个材料是丙烯嘛，一层层都干得很快。你一来一个颜色叠上去，就基本上全部都要重新画了。还有我喜欢那时候的一个状态，你会看到我的画上有丙烯，有铅笔，就是那一刻的那个感觉。同时也会用一些炭笔啊，也有一些是刮的，还有的用一些纸在上面啊，我也不知道这怎么说，哈哈。就是，你是一个画画的人，你在创作一个东西，就会发现自己有一点“神经”了。”

A: "Emotions are strongly involved in my artworks. I never make a draft, like some artists usually do. I start drawing spontaneously, for something over in my mind."

Q: “Are your works finished in one go?”

A: “Yes. When I’m feeling good, I will try to finish it all in one go. Only if there is something I don't like, I will wipe it off and paint again, but it is rare. Because the material I use is acrylic, all layers dry so quick. If you repaint a little bit, basically then you have to repaint it all. Also, I like my state at that time, you will see that there is propylene on my paintings, pencil, that is the feeling at that moment. Some charcoal pens are used, some are scraped, and some are covered by papers. I don’t know how to say this, haha. That is like, you are A person who draws, when you are creating a thing, you will find yourself a little 'nuts'."

Q: “你在作画的过程中，都会思考些什么？”

A: “其实很多东西都是属于一些生活上的东西。比方说一些看到的东西啊，回忆啊，秘密啊，就是年轻时候的一些东西。其实前一段时间画的这种模糊的，就是，以前的生活，突然间有些东西就变成你的回忆了，有的只是一刹那的东西。然后你就想把那个感觉，把它变成画面，用颜色跟线条，我最喜欢的就是颜色跟线条。”

Q:  "What do you usually think while you're drawing?"

A: "In fact, most are related to my daily life, what I have seen today, memories, secrets.....

something happened when I was young...... Life, suddenly something you used to familiar with became your memory. Then you want to turn that feeling into your work, use colour and lines, which are my favourite."

A: “在我十八岁，去到北京，然后看到一小本画册。当初看到的感觉就是，哇，这个东西……这个人叫Egon Schiele，所以这就是为什么我的英文名叫egon嘛。还有很多，都是在以前，都是一个过程吧。你看到我的线条，可能还有一点儿童的那种插画。因为从小在香港长大，受了很多漫画，搞笑的那种漫画的影响。可能就是在那种商业的社会下面，在那种社会的坏境下面，它不容许你单一的发展。所以我的画画，我也会画一些漫画，同样还有一些设计。”

"Once, I went to Beijing when I was eighteen years old. That is the first time I saw the artwork made by Egon Schiele, printed on a small booklet. I still remember that kind of feeling...... That is why my English name is Egon, hah. And also other artists I used to crazy about, many of them. You can tell from the lines on my paintings, they are a bit like animation lines. Because I was raised in Hong Kong, so I was influenced a lot by comics and manga. Also, under that kind of society, the social environment does not recommend you to develop only of your interests. So apart from drawing, I also do some comics, as well as design."

“我好像对地方都没有什么归属感，我喜欢一个距离，就会很舒服。因为我个性敏感，所以有些太苦的东西我都选择不看，看了就会很难受的。其实我觉得自己有女性的某一些特质，在男性身上，所以就很麻烦的......我喜欢加缪的《局外人》，每次读都会流眼泪。”

“Somehow I don't have a sense of belonging. I like staying away from the crowd, it makes me comfortable. Because I am sensitive, so I don't want to look at things that are too bitter. It is difficult for me to handle. Actually, those characteristics, like sensitive, they are usually in women…… It is complex……I really like the book “The Stranger” written by Albert Camus. I cry every time I read it.”

关于艺术家 

About The Artist

许尤嘉，生于中国，两岁时迁至泰国，而后在四岁回到香港生活长大，现工作生活于上海。拥有多地生活背景的他，描述自己的作品是对回忆、情绪的释放。他用丙烯来表达自己转瞬的情感变化，就像丙烯这种材料本身，来不及等待前后的犹豫。就像他本人所说：“在我的身体里，始终住着那个年轻叛逆的男孩。”

Egon Xu, born in China, went to Thailand at the age of 2, moved to Hong Kong at the age of 4, and grew up in Hong Kong. Now lives and works in Shanghai.

As an artist who has had rich life experience, he describes his work as a response to his memories and emotions. He uses acrylic paints to catch different emotions, like the material itself, there is no time for hesitation. He said: “There is still a rebellious teenager living in my soul.”
